National Tree Day at Mulambin Beach a success

Ian Weigh Toyota and the Rockhampton Regional Council joined forces to host the first National Tree Day at Mulambin Beach on the 27th July 2008.

The day was a huge success with over 100 volunteers signing up to get their hands dirty with over 2500 native trees planted in less than 2 hours.

Two main types of saplings were planted; these were a rare native beach scrub and a dunal species of Casuarinas. The Rockhampton Regional Council’s Community Nursery supplied all of the plants.

According to Rockhamption Regional Council’s Vegetation Rehabilitation Officer, Paddy Delalande, the Mulambin beach site was ideal for planting as the area was in need of rejuvenation to encourage wildlife back to the area. “The trees we have planted this Sunday will provide dunal protection and restore the habitat for local wildlife”.

Volunteers enjoyed a sausage sizzle kindly provided by Ian Weigh Toyota. Several staff from Ian Weigh Toyota gave up their time to support the day. The Toyota Prius Hybrid vehicle was on display for volunteers to look and observe environmentally friendly petrol electric technology.
